Project MARS

You are invited to participate in an exciting project hosted by the University of Minnesota and backed by Harvard University: Project MARS. Project MARS seeks to provide seventh grade students with an understanding of proportions and specific methods associated with enhanced problem solving performance through focused interventions over a two-year period. Participating teachers will implement six weeks of schema-based instruction (SBI) curriculum based on two major units: ratios/proportions and percentages. Ratio and proportion are critically important concepts in middle school mathematics instruction where a majority of American students continue to struggle and under perform. Project MARS expands on three years of previous research on schema-based instruction (SBI) performed in Pennsylvania and Minnesota.
