To provide continuing support for the Title I students in your school(s), we are again inviting you to join the Title I Network for the 2014-2015 school year. This is a regional network organized to offer assistance to districts as they continue to develop, modify and expand programs and activities that benefit the Title I students.

Gifted & Talented Network and Programs

2014-2015 School Year

To provide continuing support for the high ability students in your school(s), we are again inviting you to join the Gifted / Talented Network for the 2014-2015 school year. This is a regional network organized to offer assistance to districts as they continue to develop, modify and expand programs and activities that benefit high ability learners at all grade levels.

At the Network meetings last year the group felt it would be beneficial to conduct book studies throughout the coming school year. In order to take advantage of group prices for books, we have added a slight a fee for the book(s). The fee for each member district joining the network will be $220.00 ($230.00 for out of region districts). We will provide at least one book per district. Please designate a coordinator for your school(s). Your district fee allows anyone from your district to attend any of the meetings, not only the G/T Coordinator. A program brochure will be sent via email prior to each meeting with information about the agenda, topic and possible presenters.

Curriculum Coordinators Network/ District Assessment Coordinators

The Curriculum Coordinators Network (CCN) and the District Assessment Coordinators (DAC) are two groups that are often dealing with similar or the same issues.  As a result, these two groups come together at our office to collaborate and exchange information and best practices regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Minnesota Alliance for

Geographic Education (MAGE)

This three session program will introduce participants to MAGE’s Links to Geoliteracy website and Live Binder site, which provides summative and formative assessments, vocabulary terms, resources and lessons/activities for each of the new High School Geography Standards.  In the first session you will be given ideas on how to organize a high school geography course, review what concepts must be taught for each unit and be given the password to access all of the materials on the Links website. This site is password protected and the only way to obtain the materials is attend a Links workshop. The first session will then go into more in-depth explanation of how to teach the geographic skills necessary to use geographic tools, including GIS programs. This session will also focus on the study of population and cultural geography.  

The second session will continue with Cultural Geography and then focus on explanations and teaching ideas for the models and concepts of Political and Agricultural Geography. This session will include ideas for teaching changes to the AP Syllabus that goes into effect this school year. 
The third session will focus on Urban and Industrial Geography, and include explanations and teaching ideas for the changes to the AP Syllabus.  This session will conclude with ideas on how to prepare our students for the AP Exam.

Sessions two and three will also include ideas for Environmental Geography. All sessions will review the materials on the Links website and provide additional lessons and resources.
These sessions will also provide time for you to work on lesson ideas and share your lessons and resources with other participants. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a better understanding of the high school Geography Standards, and develop or enhance your current Geography class.
