Resource Training and Solutions is Moving!

Thanks to your support, we’ve grown out of our current space, the Cold Spring Center, where we’ve been happily housed for 17 years.  During that time, we’ve adapted the facility several times to facilitate growth.  We’ve also cultivated a relationship with another organization dedicated to serving lifelong learners, the College of St. Scholastica over the last decade. We’re elated to have them join us at our new leased location, 137 23rd Street South in Sartell (across Highway 15 from Sam's Club and Wal-Mart).

Here's the new location from a satellite view (click for a larger view).

The Sartell location was chosen after an extensive area-wide two-year search.  The decision was based on several factors; the area’s growth, its convenience, road changes nearby that will ease traffic flow in the area and its proximity to one of the main arteries in the region, Highway 15.

Partners

Our collaboration with the College of St. Scholastica is sustainable and beneficial because it allows us to  create a  training facility that will benefit us both, and makes us ideal roommates, with the majority of our business  occurring during the day and more of their  business occurring in the evening.  Additionally, teaming with them reduces our total cost for the facility, which is being built by Sauk Rapids-based Strack Companies.  Strack projects you may be  familiar with include the JC Penney renovation at Crossroads Mall, Midsota Clinic and the CentraCare Health plaza, among others.

What to expect

What our move means to you is an environment more conducive to learning, with bigger training spaces, more training space availability, bigger bathrooms, a convenient location, and a growing team more well-equipped to provide you the exceptional customer service you’ve grown to expect from Resource Training and Solutions.

Business as usual...for now

It will be business as usual for the next several months, and all program offerings through summer 2013 will take place at our current location.  Look for updates to our September 2013 relocation in future editions of the Communicator.  Until then, thank you for helping us grow so much that this change became necessary. We look forward to having you celebrate with us at our 2013 customer appreciation event!

In this installment, Executive Director Rob Cavanna explains how our impending move will affect you.  Also see http://www.resourcetraining.com/Page/Location.

Resource Relocation Q & A

Who is Resource working with?

  • Resource and the College of St. Scholastica’s St. Cloud campus found that we had similar business needs and found a builder that would customize leased space to meet our needs. The builder is locally-owned Strack Companies.
  • The opportunity to partner with the College of St. Scholastica allows us to design and build a space that will meet Resource’s needs during the day, and the College will use it primarily at night. It makes sense since both businesses focus on serving life-long learners and can share common space.

What are the goals for the move?
  • A larger space with more training rooms (and bathrooms!) that is flexible enough to accommodate the wide variety of trainings hosted by Resource
  • Creating a space that is more open and conducive to learning
  • Re-evaluate our office space to create efficiencies
  • We are excited to share some of the space – provides Resource with more space for less cost.

Where will the new location be?

When is Resource Moving?
  • Fall 2013. Watch the Communicator or Resource Update and your email for more details this spring.

Why is Resource Moving?
  • We're out of space!
    • Office space: Because our staff recently grew by 20 percent
    • Training space: A number of our trainings are being held off site because attendance exceeds our space (and our attendees would tell you… the restrooms are too small!)
Is there road construction near the new location?
Yes, there is a large construction project on Highway 15 scheduled to be completed fall 2013, hopefully around the same time Resource moves to the new location. We expect a  minimal impact on our members traveling to Resource. Any construction-related travel challenges will be temporary, with an excellent long-term outlook.

Is Resource selling furniture?
Yes, some. The office furniture/cubicles will be sold because the manufacturer has gone out of business.  This would make it difficult to reconfigure the furniture or get parts to add more work spaces. We will have smaller workspaces in exchange for larger training rooms in our new building. Our current training tables and chairs have served us well for many years, and will continue to be utilized in our new space.

Will Resource use cooperative purchasing vendors?
When possible.  We are not involved in picking structural building vendors as we are a tenant in the building.  As we search to find products and services that meet our needs as a tenant, it is our goal to utilize our cooperative purchasing vendors whenever possible.

Why didn’t you purchase a vacant space?
We searched for two years to find vacant space that was in the right location to serve our members and that could be modified to meet our needs, especially training room space. Once the opportunity to partner with St. Scholasitica presented itself, the challenge to find space that met the needs of both organizations made the search more complex. After weighing the pros and cons, the option of a new leased space appeard to be best.
