Steam and Hot Water Boiler Training
6 hour Continuing Education Requirement for Boiler Operations

August 13, 2012, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm

326B.974 School Engineer
Subdivision 1. License required. Any custodial engineer employed by a school whose duties include the operation of a boiler shall be licensed pursuant to section 326B.978, to operate the particular class of boiler used in the school.

Subd. 2. School district training. A school district shall allow to occur annually at least 8 hours of training related to boiler operation to a licensee described in subdivision 1. The training must be administered by a licensed first or chief class engineer during the licensee's normal working hours. Two hours of the required training shall occur in the boiler room and must include demonstration of tasks associated with operating boilers. The task associated with operating boilers acceptable for the training must be from the list of approved tasks supplied by the chief boiler inspector. The administrator of the training shall receive training credit for time spent administering training pursuant to this subdivision. Materials and Lunch are Provided.

This course covers low pressure boilers used in steam and hot water heating applications. This course is designed for those who want to acquire a Special License.

Boiler Licensing Application, Exam Fee & Exam Dates will be discussed during the class.

August 16-17, 2012
8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (both days)

    ► MPCA Hazardous Waste Generators License Annual Renewal Application – Deadline varies depending on county.
    ► Community Right-to-Know
    ► Survey facilities for hazardous materials and reportable quantities
    ► Complete Tier Two Turnaround Report by March 1 and return to MN Emergency Response Commission/MN Homeland Security, and copy local fire department with maps
    ► Underground Storage Tanks
    ► Survey facilities for above and underground storage tanks.
    ► Complete requirements for MPCA regulated tanks
    ► Confined Space Program Review
    ► Survey confined spaces – list, assess and classify
    ► Ensure confined space entrances are posted to prevent unauthorized entry
    ► Entry procedures reviewed with affected staff and coordinated with contractors
    ► Equipment for entry reviewed with affected staff and coordinated with contractors
    ► Rescue and emergency procedures established.
  • February

    ► OSHA 300 Log
    ► Ensure OSHA 300 Log is posted by February 1st through April 30th at each site
    ► Hearing Conservation Program Review
    ► Survey facilities to determine high noise areas/equipment
    ► Annual audiograms completed for applicable staff
    ► Lockout/Tagout Program Review
    ► Ensure lockout/tagout equipment procured for procedures and affected staff
    ► Lockout/Tagout procedures reviewed with affected staff, including onsite inspection of completion of lockout/tagout procedures/steps.
