Getting Real About Race at School: A Head-on Approach to Racial Equity (Paul Gorski)
One of the most formidable hurdles in the quest for racially equitable schools is hesitance on the part of educators—especially white educators—to confront racial inequity directly and honestly. We cannot fix what we refuse to name. In this workshop we will practice rejecting the hesitance and explicitly naming how racism operates, intentionally and unintentionally, in our classroom and schools, impacting educational outcomes and, more importantly, educational experiences for many students of color. With the deeper understanding that comes from this honest confrontation with racial inequity we will discuss what educators can do in their spheres of influence to root inequity out and embrace equity in all aspects of education.
