The key to strengthening equity efforts for immigrant and refugee-status students is understanding the challenges and barriers with which they contend both in and out of schools. We will examine these barriers and how educators can remove them. We will learn how to recognize even subtle forms of bias and inequity bias and equity immigrant and refugee-status students experience in relation to a variety of intersecting identities including race, ethnicity, culture, language, and socioeconomic status. This will lead us to discussions about policies and practices that support equity and engagement for them and their families
