This conference is for school staff serving in a paraprofessional or educational assistant role and who support special education, English language learners, or Title I. Learn strategies and practical information to use in your job.

Keynote speaker: Kat Perkins, semi-finalist on Season 6 of NBC's The Voice. Kat is a nationally recognized motivational speaker, entertainer, and author. She will share her message of how to see success in making fearless choices and being the best employee you can be.

Session Descriptions:

Tips and Tricks to Support Student Behavior, by Rebecca Neis:
This session will provide specific evidence-based strategies that you can use to both prevent problem behavior and help manage behaviors that arise. By the end of the session you will have toolkit of both proactive and responsive strategies to prevent problem behaviors and reduce the frequency and intensity of those that occur.

Love, See, Teach!, by Jenny Hill:
Love, See, Teach! This is our job description in three words. Through stories, journaling, and conversation, you will reflect on how to best connect with your students. We will explore how to love students well, see them for who they are as unique individuals, and teach them to the best of our ability. Come and be refreshed and energized, remembering why you answered the call to become an educator.

The Effective Para-Teacher Team, by Jeanne Quinn and Missy Fee:
We will share practices we have used to quickly and effectively communicate students' needs, goals and progress between the paraprofessional and the licensed teacher. Participants will also explore the use of anecdotal records and data to support student learning.

Foundational Literacy Skills: What are they and why are they needed?, by Stacy Thompson:
In efforts to provide all students with a strong foundation in reading, schools focus on five essential components: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This session concentrates on these five components and demonstrates how they are essential to the development of proficient readers in elementary schools. Examples and strategies for each skill will be explored throughout the session. The knowledge acquired in this session will be directly applicable to your work with K-5 students in reading.

There's an app for that!, by Jenny Hill:
Are you working with students and need some fun an engaging activities to use on the iPad? This session will explore various apps available for math and reading to work with kids individually or in small groups.

Instructional Strategies to Increase Fluency, by Missy Fee:
Participants will develop an understanding of the importance of fluency and how it improves reading comprehension. We will explore how to promote reading fluency across instructional contexts including interactive read-alouds, shared reading, guided reading and independent reading using a variety of procedures and teacher prompts.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations and Refunds: Cancellations requested with more than 5 business days prior to the start date of the class will receive a full refund of the registration fee. 50% of the registration fee will be refunded for cancellations requested within 3 - 5 business days. Refunds will not be issued for No Shows or cancellations made within 2 business days of the start of the class. Resource Training & Solutions reserves the right to postpone, reschedule or cancel the class at any time. In the unlikely event a class does not take place, a full refund will be issued or the registration fee may be transferred to another class.
