Friday April 20th, 2012 from 9:00am - 3:00pm (Registration starts at 8:30am)
What is a standard? How different are the newly revised 2011 social studies standards from the 2004 standards? What is a civic skill, the “circular flow model”, or “TODALSS”? What are the literacy standards and how do they apply to me? If you are unsure about the answers to any of the above questions, then read on…
The Minnesota Department of Education invites you to spend a day exploring the standards for the social studies classroom with other teachers from your region! Kate Stower, Program Coordinator for the Minnesota Center for Social Studies Education will be here to discuss the standards review process and “unpack” the new social studies standards.
The day will include a presentation providing an overview of the revised social studies standards, a Q & A session on the social studies standards, a model lesson that you can use with your students, time for you to thoroughly review the standards at your grade level, and multiple opportunities to work with other teacher(s) to share ideas about how to address the new requirements. Come prepared to ask questions!
Lunch will be provided.
